Coating Applications & Technologies
External Coating TechnologiesHYPERION offers a full range of advanced and cost-effective external protective coating solutions. Our current TSC processes / services include:
High Velocity Oxy FuelThis is a superior and proven coating process that uses oxygen and fuel gases (such as natural gas, propane or hydrogen) in order to spray powder coatings at supersonic velocities onto a substrate material. This process results in superior adhesion and offers the very best in wear resistance.
HVOF is a superior alternative to Hard Chrome and has been selected as THE replacement for Hard Chrome in all Line of Sight applications by OSHA, the Canadian, US and other governments and most aerospace and many industrial OEM's. It is much faster to apply, environmentally superior and has many added operational advantages including; improved wear resistance, enhanced thermal efficiencies, reduced porosity / permeability, and therefore it has been proven effective in H2S and CO2 environments.
Our state-of-the art robotic TSC system ensures that your critical components are coated with great precision, consistently and under climate-controlled conditions. HVOF is ideal for: bottom-hole pump plungers, mandrells and barrels, valve gates and seats, mud motor flow collars, driveshafts and bearings, aircraft landing gear, actuators, pump jacks, drilling rigs, down hole tools, and countless other applications.
Plasma SprayThis proven process applies protective coatings to a substrate material by injecting powdered material into a high temperature gas stream (usually argon or nitrogen combined with hydrogen or helium). The plasma gas heats the powdered coating material to a molten or semi-molten state and then sprays it onto the substrate at high speeds.
Plasma satisfies stringent military and commercial aerospace specifications and makes it ideal for wear resistance applications such as oil field equipment, pump components, diesel engines, gas turbines, etc. and for re-building worn components to "better than new" condition.
Wire/Powder Flame SprayThis process is very simple, versatile and economical for wear resistance as well as protection from rust and corrosion. An oxygen fuel gas flame provides the heat source for melting the coating material. The coating material can be atomized and propelled onto a substrate surface through the use of compressed gas.
Flame spray is ideal for coating and protecting large surfaces and dimensional restoration. It can prevent corrosion-under-insulation for up to 30 years.
Our TSC Roadrunner allows us to travel to your location of choice (even hard to reach sites) in order to apply Wire & Powder Flame Spray coatings on your critical assets.
HyperTop™ Polyurea
HyperTop™ is an environmentally friendly, fast set,(under 30 seconds) rapid curing (1 hour 25 minutes), 100% solid aromatic polyurea sprayable protective coating material that contains no VOC's (volatile organic compounds).
It produces excellent adhesion on substrates, especially on steel and concrete. Due to its high tolerance for humidity and temperature, it makes coating applications possible under extremely harsh environment.
Electro-less Nickel Coatings (ENC)
Electroless Nickel Coating (ENC) has a long and proven track record in providing effective solutions for corrosion and wear and is much more cost effective than many other types of coatings or platings. ENC is an amorphous mixture of nickel and phosphorous that provides both strength and excellent corrosion resistance. The added advantage is that the ENC coatings can be hardened at low temperatures with no deformation. Hyperion's proprietary ENC chemical formulations and high performance process applications are specifically designed for industrial applications and can be tailored to meet our customers' specific requirements for operating environments
High Potential Ionic Penetration (HPIP)
High Potential Ionic Penetration (HPIP) metal penetration technology is totally different from traditional plating technologies in solid, liquid or gaseous media. Penetrating materials are ionized and accelerated in a high-voltage field toward the base material. High speed ions collide with the base metals, which both heats and softens this material and the ions then penetrate the base metal forming a metallurgical bond.
Internal Coating Technologies
InnerArmor™
A proprietary and revolutionary process for applying a corrosion-stopping and highly abrasion, erosion resistant and friction reducing coating to internal surfaces - thereby dramatically extending operating lives and reducing operational costs.
The current methods of protecting the interior of critical components have proven to be extremely expensive as well as time consuming and labour intensive - often without clear cost-benefits. InnerArmor™ offers a major solution to these problems and has shown the following clear cost-benefits
- Reduces or eliminates corrosion.
- Reduces or eliminates erosion / wear.
- Reduces surface friction to improve flow performance.
- Reduces manufacturing costs with less expensive base materials.
- Reduces the cost of plant construction & maintenance.

Plasma Thermal Spray
An effective plating process employing a concentrated solution or gel - that is held in or fed to an absorbing pad or brush carrying the anode - thereby providing an intentional buildup or addition of a new protective layer on a metal substrate - thereby extending the life of a damaged or new part by offering enhanced wear resistance.
Our Portable Brush Plating System allows us to travel to your location of choice (even hard to reach sites) in order to repair your critical assets and extend their life.
